Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. she is a TV anchor. Mitchell graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News a year later. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was appointed the top journalist for Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell appeared as both a panelist and host on the TV news program Meet the Press. She also served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates involving George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection from the infringement of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-contra controversy and tax reform. She was with Ronald Reagan in numerous visits to international summits, and also reported often.
